Customer Background

A customer was developing a motorcycle tracking device for Southeast Asian markets, where two-wheeler finance and anti-theft applications are growing fast. The device had to fit a compact enclosure, run long periods on backup battery, and deliver reliable positioning in dense urban traffic.

Project Requirements

  • Small module size for a compact device enclosure
  • Low power consumption to survive parking periods on backup battery
  • Stable positioning in dense urban environments
  • Support for multiple satellite systems across different countries

Implementation

We recommended the TAU1113 GNSS module based on its compact 18-pin LCC package (10.1 × 9.7 mm), 16 mA tracking current and 15 µA backup current. The customer integrated TAU1113 into their tracking device design, using the built-in antenna supervisor with a passive antenna to save cost. Our engineers supported datasheet review, layout check and A-GNSS configuration during the development phase.

Results

  • Improved positioning stability in urban riding and parking scenarios
  • Reduced power consumption, extending standby operation significantly
  • Simplified hardware integration thanks to built-in SAW, LNA and antenna supervision
  • Successful deployment across multiple Southeast Asian markets
